Mission Ministry

Matthew 25:40

As Christians we are each called to be in ministry. We have each been given gifts in which we can build up the body of Christ and share the love of Christ with others. At First Church, Franklin, we are involved in outreach to our community, our nation and our world, and we invite everyone to be a part of our ministry and mission. Listed below are some of the missions in which we are actively involved.

Bridges of Williamson County is a shelter for victims of domestic violence. FPC takes up a monthly food collection and collects small toiletry items for residents.

Eastminster Presbyterian Church.  FPC donated money to support the hiring of their Director of Christian Education.  Also, several members of this church participated in their Vacation Bible School.

Graceworks is a ministry for those in need in Williamson County. Besides other monetary donations, FPC contributes to Graceworks through our “Share the Table” program that operates during the summer months.

Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses are then sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged. Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. FPC has contributed funds and helped to build several homes in Williamson County. We built a house in the fall of 2005 in partnership with Habitat and plan to build next year as well.

The Lena Reynolds School of Mission is an opportunity to learn more about the field of mission work within the Christian Church around the world, in the hope that young women and men will be motivated to follow in the footsteps of Lena Reynolds.  FPC raises funds and helps out at local missions as a commemoration to Lena’s heart for mission work.

Martha O'Bryan Center is a ministry of Middle Tennessee Presbytery of the PCUSA since 1894.  This center is located in the heart of the James A. Cayce Homes in East Nashville.  The center operates as a Christian outreach ministry, supporting and empowering individuals and families in need living in East Nashville and the surrounding community, helping them attain greater levels of well-being and self-reliance.

Meals on Wheels is a non-profit organization that provides home-delivered nutritious meals to shut-ins. FPC prepares and delivers meals for more than 100 elderly and disabled residents in Williamson County on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of the first week of each month.

Monroe Harding Children’s Home is a ministry of Middle Tennessee Presbytery of the PCUSA, this children's home has served children, youth, and their families through a variety of programs in Nashville since 1893.

Presbyterian Disaster AssistanceOur church works through PDA to raise funds and organize work trips to the communities affected by Hurricane Katrina.  We took two trips in 2005.

Room in the Inn provides food and shelter for up to 225 people ach night in over 150 area congregations from November 1st to March 31st.  Our congregation welcomes ten men and ten women to share Wednesday Night Live with us on alternating Wednesdays.  We have dinner together then they are invited to join us in Bible study.  On Thursday morning we serve breakfast and give them a sack lunch to take along.  We offer each guest warm coats and jackets, personal items, and fellowship.

Russian Outreach — Several years ago, our church became involved with the Twinning Project in Russia and established a relationship with our “sister church.”

Living Waters for the World is the global mission resource of the Synod of Living Waters (Presbyterian Church USA).  By training and equipping mission temas to share the gift of clean, sustainable water, we develop leaders, and strive for excellence, ecumenism and inclusiveness.  Joining hands with those who need clean water, we find ourselves holding the hand of God.
