Sunday School - Youth
Sundays 9:45 - 10:30 a.m.

The mission of Christian Education is to engage the Bible in community so that its grace and promises can be heard afresh in each generation.  Our Sunday School encourages questions, fosters a passion for the Bible, and instills a desire to grow in faith.  We hope this desire lasts a lifetime.
Our youth curriculum is Seasons of the Spirit.  Published by Woodlake Publishing, and following the Revised Common Lectionary, each week's lesson comes from a Bible story that is also referenced in worship.  Over the course of the lectionary's three-year cycle, youth will read a variety of stories from both the Old Testament and the New Testament, with one of the synoptic gospels (synoptic is a word used to describe the first three gospels in the New Testament as they all tell the story of Jesus Christ's life and ministry from a similar point of view and are similar in structure) as the focus of each year: Year A - Matthew, Year B - Mark, and Year C - Luke. The gospel of John is read each year, primarily in Christmas, Lent and Easter.  In the Fall of 2010, we are finishing Year C, and will begin Year A on the first Sunday of Advent, November 28.

Classes will be divided by grade (7, 8, 9, 10-11, and 12) because we believe that the times spent in a setting where important discussion of the themes, Bible texts, and theological/spiritual issues and the way they intersect with the lives and questions of the youth are best spent in smaller, age-specific settings with a low teacher-student ratio. It also provides a less-intimidating environment where all youth can be engaged and heard.
