Sunday School - Preteen

Our children’s curriculum, Spark, is published by Augsburg Fortress. This Lectionary curriculum model follows stories in the Revised Common Lectionary. Throughout the three-year cycle, each lesson comes from a Bible story in the Old Testament, the Gospels, or Acts that kids will hear during worship. The Revised Common Lectionary is divided into three annual cycles of readings.
  • In year A the gospel readings come primarily from Matthew.
  • In year B the gospel readings come primarily from Mark.
  • In year C the gospel readings come primarily from Luke.
  • The Gospel of John is used in all three years.
The fall of 2010 we are finishing Year C and on the first Sunday of Advent, Nov. 28, Year A begins.

6th grade Sunday School: Confirmation - Preteens at First Presbyterian Church enroll in confirmation when they reach the 6th grade. This course meets every Sunday morning from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. in room 209.  The course begins with an understanding of scripture and includes information about the Reformed tradition, the Presbyterian Church, USA, and First Presbyterian Church of Franklin. In addition to Sunday morning, Confirmands are assigned a Covenant Partner to walk beside them in their journey. Confirmands and Covenant Partners read the Gospel of Luke then meet at least monthly to discuss their reading and explore other questions of the faith. Once each month, confirmands also participate in Confirmation at the Summit, a special activity to extend Sunday morning’s learning.
