The Rock that is Higher: Story as Truth, by Madeline L’Engle
January 20-April 28, 2010.

Join us beginning January 20 as we study this book from one of the truly great Christian literary figures and author of the highly-acclaimed A Wrinkle in Time. We can sometimes get lost in life’s struggles, and in those times we long for a true home – a solid rock in the midst of our daily wilderness. Story guides us in our journey to that rock, reminding us of who we are and where we come from. Drawing from literature, her own experiences, and narratives from Scripture, Madeline L’Engle gently and profoundly leads us into the world of story in this book. Story is an affirmation of God’s love – a love that illuminates our own life stories and points us to our true home in Christ. As she writes, “We are homesick not so much for something that was, and was lost, as for something that will be, and is to be found…We are all strangers in a strange land, longing for home, but not quite knowing what or where home is. We glimpse it sometimes in our dreams, or as we turn a corner, and suddenly there is a strange, sweet familiarity that vanishes almost as soon as it comes…”
Beginning with Ash Wednesday on February 14, we will also begin a daily devotional reading entitled “40 Days with Madeline L’Engle.” This resource will enable class participants to each day of Lent explore your own spirituality under the guidance of one of America’s most beloved spiritual writers. It is a forty day journey that will give us “much to think about, to pray about, and to do on the road to joyful spiritual growth.”  The class will conclude April 28.
Cost for books will be between $25-30, and will be paid by the class participants.
